The primary cause of these movements stemmed from the international market and the ongoing domestic harvest. Strong purchasing demand from export companies pushed prices upward midweek. However, abundant supply as the harvest entered its peak phase limited further gains. By the weekend, domestic Robusta prices fluctuated around 42,000 – 43,000 VND/kg, below farmers’ expectations due to seasonal competition and cautious speculators.

International Coffee Prices for the Week of 9-14/12

At the start of the week, Robusta prices declined slightly due to forecasts of stable supply from Vietnam and Indonesia, the world’s two largest Robusta producers. However, midweek saw prices rebound sharply amid concerns over adverse weather conditions impacting Vietnam’s harvest. A weaker USD further supported price recovery. By the end of the week, Robusta prices on the London exchange hovered around 2,450 – 2,480 USD/ton, as profit-taking from speculators capped the upward momentum.

New York Arabica (cents/lb):

Arabica prices on the New York exchange showed a slight downward trend during the week, reflecting supply forecasts and broader macroeconomic factors.

At the start of the week, Arabica prices declined as reports revealed high coffee inventory levels in U.S. and European warehouses. Positive production forecasts from Brazil, the world’s largest Arabica producer, further eased supply concerns. However, prices rebounded midweek on news of dry weather conditions in key Brazilian growing regions. By the weekend, profit-taking pressures and economic outlooks in the U.S. caused Arabica prices to settle around 1.55 – 1.57 USD/pound, marking a slight decline from the previous week but remaining within a stable range.

General Evaluation and Coffee Price Forecast for the Upcoming Week
