Robusta
Robusta is a coffee variety native to Africa and is now widely cultivated in countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Brazil, and Uganda. It thrives in hot, humid climates at elevations below 1,000 meters and is well known for its strong resistance to pests and drought.
Robusta plants are vigorous, easy to cultivate, and highly productive. However, due to their simpler genetic structure, the beans contain fewer aromatic compounds, resulting in a flavor profile that lacks depth and complexity.
The beans are small and round, with a high caffeine content that contributes to a strong bitterness, low acidity, and minimal sweetness. They are typically dark-roasted, but these characteristics make it difficult for Robusta to meet the standards of Specialty Coffee.
