Harfursa coffee originates from Ethiopia, which is also Africa’s largest coffee producer, with about 700,000 small coffee growers. Just like Rwanda, Ethiopia has many landscapes as well as climates and weather that are very favorable for coffee beans to grow. Therefore, coffee has long been part of the indigenous cultural tradition for more than 10 generations of people here.

It is a coffee region in southern Ethiopia that specializes in the production of special coffees from the long-established traditional Arabica variety. Sustainable development farmers

 

Like virtually all coffee from southern Ethiopia, Harfusa is produced on small plots that are intercropped with food and other subsistence crops.

Harfursa coffee is certified organic and Fair Trade. That means it is purchased from smallholder farmers at a reasonable price to ensure economic sustainability. The micro-roasters involved in the supply chain here are all certified with a focus on organic, socially conscious and high-quality coffee.

When farmers apply the method of intercropping and planting entirely with organic fertilizers, they use decay and pest control in a natural way, protecting the ecological environment. This makes the taste of the coffee more pure and clean.

It is known that smallholders contribute up to 95% of coffee production in the Yirgacheffe region. Their union is a peasant-owned democratic organization where democracy is fully exercised and every member has the right to vote freely. Coffee farmers are also returned 70% of their net profits, and premiums are used to build schools, health centers, and necessary infrastructure.
