World Coffee Research (WCR) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to research and development in the coffee industry. It focuses on preserving and improving coffee varieties, enhancing quality, supporting farmers, and protecting the environment.
Through genetic and agronomic research, WCR develops resilient coffee varieties capable of withstanding challenges from climate change and diseases. Additionally, the organization contributes to sensory evaluation systems such as the Sensory Lexicon and the Coffee Taster’s Flavor Wheel, which help define and standardize coffee flavors.
Operating in more than 29 countries, WCR not only safeguards coffee genetic resources but also drives sustainable development, ensuring that specialty coffee retains its quality and long-term value.
