Congensis
Congensis (Coffea congensis) is a wild coffee species originating from the Congo region (Central Africa), typically growing in lower and wetter areas compared to Arabica.
Its sensory characteristic is that C. congensis is thought to contribute a better flavor to some Robusta populations. It is noted for having aromatic potential and a less astringent taste.
Although not widely cultivated, C. congensis is an important subject in breeding. It is studied with the goal of finding desirable genes (like aroma) for hybridization, aiming to improve the overall quality of the Robusta variety.
