French Mission
French Mission coffee is a historically significant and distinctive Arabica variety belonging to the Bourbon lineage, introduced to East Africa by French missionaries in the late 19th century.
Due to Bourbon’s low heat tolerance, French Mission is typically grown under the shade of taller trees, which slows the development of the coffee cherries and helps create its characteristic delicate, sweet flavors with mild acidity.
Although not widely cultivated, its unique flavor profile and classic heritage have led some farms in Kenya and Rwanda to preserve and cultivate French Mission as a valuable part of their coffee legacy.
