Double Shot is an espresso brewing method that uses twice the amount of coffee grounds compared to a traditional single shot. Specifically, 14 grams of finely ground coffee are extracted to produce approximately 60 milliliters (2 ounces) of concentrated espresso, doubling the volume of a standard single shot.

The term “doppio”, which means “double” in Italian, is another name for a double shot and originates from Italy’s rich coffee culture. Initially, a single shot of espresso was the standard, but as coffee drinkers sought a stronger and more intense experience, the double shot became increasingly popular.

Today, the double shot has become the standard espresso serving size in countries like Italy, the United States, and Australia. It is widely used in specialty coffee shops, catering to those who prefer a bolder, well-balanced espresso with enhanced flavor complexity.
