Catimor
Catimor is a hybrid coffee variety created in Portugal in 1959 by crossing Caturra (a type of Arabica) with the Timor Hybrid (a natural cross between Arabica and Robusta). Thanks to its strong disease resistance and high productivity, Catimor quickly became a popular choice in many coffee-growing regions, particularly across Asia and Latin America.
The plant is short with a wide canopy, allowing for dense planting and high yields. It is especially valued for its resistance to coffee leaf rust—a disease that once caused severe declines in global coffee production.
While it may not offer the complexity of premium Specialty varieties, Catimor delivers a mild sweetness, clean aftertaste, and smooth body. Depending on the elevation where it’s grown, it can also develop subtle notes of berries or herbs. It’s a great option for those who enjoy a gentle, easy-to-drink cup.
