Montserrat
Montserrat is a coffee-growing region located on a volcanic island in the Caribbean. Following the eruption of Soufrière Hills in 1995, the coffee plantations were restored on fertile volcanic soil, creating one of the region’s few and most valuable growing areas.
Coffee is grown at altitudes of approximately 300-740 meters, primarily old Arabica varieties such as Typica and Bourbon. Thanks to the mineral-rich volcanic soil, tropical climate, and traditional farming methods, the coffee here has a very limited yield but is highly regarded for its quality.
Today, Montserrat is known for its micro-lot coffees with citrus, caramel, and chocolate notes, and a deep, sweet aftertaste. It is a prime example of the resurgence of coffee on Caribbean volcanic soil.
