Degrowth
Degrowth is a perspective on development that does not prioritize ever-increasing production and consumption. Instead, it involves proactively scaling back resource-intensive activities to strike a balance between the economy, quality of life, and environmental health.
In the Specialty Coffee sector, this mindset manifests as a refusal to chase high yields at any cost. Low-yield varieties, grown slowly and well-suited to local natural conditions are preserved if they offer value in terms of flavor, biodiversity, and genetic diversity. Simply put, degrowth is not about doing less in a negative sense; rather, it is about creating value more sustainably prioritizing quality, people, and nature over sheer quantity.
