Coffea
Coffea is a genus of flowering plants in the family Rubiaceae, which includes many different coffee species.
Carl Linnaeus, a Swedish botanist proposed the genus Coffea in 1737, classifying it in the Rubiaceae family. Later, in 1753, he added Coffea Arabica to his plant classification system. The name ‘Arabica’ was added to the binomial nomenclature of coffee, and from that point, the species was called Coffea Arabica.
Plants in the Coffea genus are shrubs or small trees native to tropical regions, southern Africa, and tropical Asia. Some species in this genus produce seeds known as coffee beans, which are used to flavor various beverages and products.
