Chepsangor Hills Estate
First time cooperation: 2025
Cooperation model: Indirect Trade
Chepsangor Hills Estate was founded in 2018 by Dr. Rosebella Langat and her husband, operating as a vertically integrated estate where all cultivation and processing activities are carried out on-site. The estate is located in Nandi Hills, a lush highland region on the edge of the Great Rift Valley in southwestern Kenya, at an elevation of approximately 1,750 – 2,000 meters above sea level.
In addition to its altitude, the mineral-rich volcanic soils of Chepsangor Hills provide a solid foundation for healthy coffee growth. The estate cultivates Kenya’s hallmark Arabica varieties such as SL28, Batian, and Ruiru 11, while applying a range of processing methods, from washed, natural, and honey to experimental fermentation approaches to fully express the flavor potential of each coffee bean.
Under the guidance of Dr. Rosebella Langat, women’s leadership at Chepsangor Hills Estate is not expressed as a slogan, but rather embedded as a foundation for how the estate operates, makes decisions, and engages with the local community. Beyond farming activities, the estate has played a key role in establishing Chepsangor Women in Coffee, a women-led producer group with more than 100 members.
Situated at the foot of the lush rolling hills of Nandi Hills, Chepsangor Hills Estate is the birthplace and home of Tulon Coffee, a coffee that represents the quality and identity of this region. From an agronomic perspective, Tulon Coffee is an Arabica variety grown at elevations of 1,700 – 2,000 meters above sea level, in the fertile volcanic soils of Nandi Hills along the Nandi Escarpment of the Rift Valley.
Beyond production, Chepsangor Hills is also recognized as a space for learning and knowledge exchange within the Nandi Hills coffee community. The estate regularly implements educational initiatives such as fermentation camps, organic farming workshops, and leadership training programs. These activities are particularly focused on empowering rural women and improving economic outcomes for coffee growers.
