Villa Sarchi
Villa Sarchi originated as a natural mutation of the Bourbon variety, with a single-gene mutation that results in a smaller-than-average plant size, commonly referred to as a dwarf mutation.
This variety features a compact structure with a low canopy and is particularly well-suited to cultivation at elevations between 1,300 and 1,600 meters above sea level. While it is relatively wind-resistant, Villa Sarchi is quite susceptible to common diseases such as coffee leaf rust and American leaf spot.
Villa Sarchi was first discovered in the northwestern region of Alajuela Province, Costa Rica, during the 1950s–1960s. Up to now, it remains primarily cultivated within Costa Rica and has yet to achieve widespread adoption on a global scale.
