The Mayaguez varieties are descendants of the renowned Bourbon coffee, which originated on Réunion Island and made its way to the Americas in the 19th century.
Through extensive research and selective breeding, scientists developed two key cultivars, Bourbon Mayaguez 71 and Bourbon Mayaguez 139, with the goal of optimizing yield, enhancing cup quality, and improving adaptability across diverse growing environments.
