Jackson
Jackson originates from a region in India, likely descended from the first coffee beans brought from Yemen to India by Baba Budan in 1670. Recent genetic tests have confirmed that Jackson is related to the Bourbon gene group.
Mr. Jackson was a coffee farmer in Mysore, India, in the early 1900s, who discovered that the plants on his farm had resistance to coffee leaf rust. However, this resistance gradually faded, and the variety came to be considered susceptible to the disease. Seedlings from these plants were sent to research stations in 1920, and from this original variety, the Jackson variety was developed, which is commonly found in Rwanda today.
