Layo Toraga Cooperative, established in 1976 in Haro Shifa, Guji zone, Ethiopia, unites 1,814 smallholder farmers. Situated at an impressive altitude of 2,342m, the cooperative produces high-quality coffee in an ideal semi-forest environment.
Layo Toraga was founded to support Guji farmers in accessing markets, an area previously challenged by low coffee prices. The cooperative specializes in the 74110 coffee variety, employing a washed processing method with 45-hour fermentation and 12-day drying on raised beds.
Layo Toraga’s product stands out with distinctive flavors of strawberry, thyme, and white grape, achieving an export price of $11.5 USD/kg. The cooperative not only brings economic benefits but also enhances community life, creating a sustainable development model for the Guji coffee industry.
